Synopsis
A series of nine luminous, episodic vignettes dramatizing the humble, joyful beginnings of the Franciscan order in the Umbrian meadows, portraying Saint Francis of Assisi and his devoted friars as God's holy fools who embrace lepers, endure beatings by tyrannical warlords, and spin in circles until dizzy to find where God calls them. Roberto Rossellini and co-writer Federico Fellini's transcendent humanist poem.
