Synopsis

In early 20th-century Toledo, an orphaned innocent young woman is taken in by her aristocratic, socialist-posturing guardian Don Lope, who quickly seduces her and keeps her as his prisoner-mistress until she flees with a young painter, returning years later terminally ill with a leg cancer that requires amputation, hardening her into a vengeful, wealthy tyrant who lets her guardian die. Luis Buñuel's Oscar-nominated masterpiece starring Catherine Deneuve and Fernando Rey.
