Synopsis
A disillusioned former Munich Foreign Legionnaire turned fruit cart vendor is emotionally suffocated by his bourgeois mother, contemptuous wife, and petty siblings, spiraling through alcoholism and heart trouble to a deliberate, quiet act of self-destruction at a tavern table surrounded by his family. Rainer Werner Fassbinder's breakthrough Douglas Sirk-inspired melodrama starring Hans Hirschmüller and Irm Hermann.
