The Lost Weekend
Synopsis
Over four harrowing days in Manhattan while his brother and loyal girlfriend are away in the country, an alcoholic novelist struggling with crippling writer's block goes on a desperate bender, stealing domestic servants' money, hiding rye whiskey bottles inside light fixtures and dangling out windows on string, and wandering Third Avenue attempting to pawn his typewriter on Yom Kippur, descending into hospital delirium tremens with hallucinated flying bats. Billy Wilder and Charles R. Brackett's four-time Academy Award-winning masterpiece (Best Picture, Director, Actor, Screenplay) starring Ray Milland with Miklós Rózsa's eerie theremin score.
