Synopsis

In the sun-baked, rundown agricultural town of Stockton, California, a washed-up, alcoholic 29-year-old former boxer living in skid-row flophouses attempts a pathetic ring comeback while taking day-labor field work chopping onions, crossing paths with an eighteen-year-old amateur novice whom he mentors before both succumb to the cyclical inertia of small-town defeat. John Huston and Leonard Gardner's Oscar-nominated New Hollywood masterpiece starring Stacy Keach, Jeff Bridges, and Susan Tyrrell with Conrad Hall's camera and Kris Kristofferson's 'Help Me Make It Through the Night'.
