Synopsis
A wealthy, aristocratic Mexican bachelor and devout Catholic marries a beautiful younger woman, quickly succumbing to paranoid, pathological delusions of marital infidelity, barricading her in their mansion, sewing her pajamas shut with a needle and thread, and plotting to murder her during midnight mass in the bell tower. Luis Buñuel's piercing, darkly hilarious clinical dissection of patriarchal jealousy and religious neurosis, praised by Jacques Lacan as a textbook case of paranoia.
