Synopsis

A decorated female World War II fighter pilot ace, now in her forties, works as a strict, respected vocational school principal in a provincial Soviet city, struggling with a growing emotional chasm separating her from her alienated teenage daughter and peacetime youth who cannot comprehend wartime sacrifice, daydreaming of cloud formations and barrel rolls in the sky. Larisa Shepitko's extraordinary directorial debut masterpiece starring Maya Bulgakova.
