Synopsis

A small family of four lives in solitary subsistence on an arid, roadless island in the Seto Inland Sea, rowing back and forth to the mainland every day to haul heavy wooden buckets of fresh water up steep mountain terraces to irrigate their crops. Kaneto Shindo's dialogue-free visual poem that won the Grand Prix at Moscow scored by Hikaru Hayashi.
