Synopsis
At the close of World War II in Burma, a musically gifted Japanese soldier is sent to persuade an entrenched Japanese unit to surrender peacefully, but after witnessing the catastrophic mountain massacre, disguises himself as a Buddhist monk with a Burmese harp and vows to wander the country giving proper burial to the thousands of unburied war dead. Kon Ichikawa's Oscar-nominated and Venice-winning anti-war Buddhist masterpiece.
