Synopsis
In the rigid, opulent Gilded Age high society of 1870s New York, an honorable young lawyer engaged to a sheltered, conventional debutante falls into a secret, agonizing romantic passion with her disgraced, unconventional cousin Countess Olenska, trapped within a polite social hierarchy that executes transgressors without a drop of blood spilled. Martin Scorsese and Edith Wharton's Oscar-winning visual summit starring Daniel Day-Lewis, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Winona Ryder with Michael Ballhaus's gliding camera.
