Running on Empty

Synopsis

For fifteen years since bombing a napalm research laboratory during the Vietnam War, a pair of 1960s radical anti-war fugitives live underground on the run with their two sons, perpetually dying their hair and fleeing towns under false identities, until their gifted seventeen-year-old pianist son's talent is recognized by a Juilliard music teacher, forcing the parents to choose between family unity and releasing their son into an independent life: 'You don't have to carry our past.' Sidney Lumet and Naomi Foner's double Oscar-nominated deeply poignant family drama starring River Phoenix (Oscar Best Supporting Actor nominee) and Christine Lahti.
