Synopsis
The master of an impoverished itinerant kabuki troupe brings his theater company to a quiet seaside town in southern Japan to secretly visit his former mistress and the grown illegitimate son who believes he is merely his uncle, inciting his jealous lead actress mistress to hire a young troupe ingenue to seduce the boy. Yasujiro Ozu's dazzling, color remake of his own 1934 silent film, photographed in glowing Agfacolor by legendary cinematographer Kazuo Miyagawa.
