Synopsis
A mad, opera-obsessed Irish rubber entrepreneur in turn-of-the-century Peru resolves to build an opulent opera house in the remote Amazonian jungle town of Iquitos, financing his obsession by enlisting hundreds of indigenous laborers to haul a 320-ton steamship over a steep muddy mountain to reach an untapped rubber territory. Werner Herzog's Cannes Best Director-winning legendary epic of artistic obsession starring Klaus Kinski.
