Synopsis
In working-class post-war Liverpool during the 1940s and 1950s, a mother and her three adult children gather for family weddings and pub singalongs, drifting through non-linear tableaus of communal warmth and the terrifying phantom memory of their late, violently abusive father who beat his children while loving his horse. Terence Davies' Cannes FIPRESCI Prize and Locarno Golden Leopard-winning autobiographical memory masterpiece composed entirely of static compositions, tracking shots, and popular pub songs.
