Synopsis
In an isolated 18th-century Spanish colonial river outpost in the Paraguayan chaco, a stagnating royal magistrate named Don Diego de Zama waits in futile, hallucinatory agony for the King of Spain to approve his transfer to a civilized post, descending into bureaucratic delirium, heat stroke, and a suicidal jungle expedition hunting a legendary phantom bandit. Lucrecia Martel's dazzling sensory monument based on Antonio Di Benedetto's novel.
