Synopsis
In the 13th-century Mali Empire, a young Bambara warrior endowed with ancestral clairvoyance flees across the arid Sahel to master the cosmic magic of the Kore society, pursued by his tyrannical sorcerer father who wields a lethal golden carved-wood vulture idol called the Kolonkalanni to destroy him, culminating in a transcendent mythological showdown where solar light dissolves the desert. Souleymane Cissé's Cannes Jury Prize-winning visual epic—the first Black African film to win a major competition prize at Cannes.
