Synopsis
In a surreal, fairytale Bohemian village, a 13-year-old girl experiences her first menstruation, discovering her pearl earrings possess magical protective powers as she enters a hallucinatory dreamscape of vampires, weasel-faced constables, lustful priests, and witch-burning pyres. Jaromil Jireš and Ester Krumbachová's gorgeous, gothic Czech New Wave dark fantasy summit featuring Luboš Fišer's enchanting choral score.
