Synopsis
An epic, meditative recreation of peasant tenant farmers living in an 1898 Lombardy farmhouse, following the cycle of seasons, marriages, corn husking, and pig slaughter until a poor father secretly fells a landowner's alder tree to carve a wooden clog for his bright young son to walk to school, bringing catastrophic landlord retribution. Ermanno Olmi's Cannes Palme d'Or-winning humanist masterpiece.
