Synopsis
In a Nuremberg tavern, the German romantic poet E.T.A. Hoffmann recounts three tragic love affairs: an animated dancing automaton doll, a dying soprano who sings herself to death in Venice, and a courtesan who steals men's reflections in enchanted mirrors. Michael Powell & Emeric Pressburger's Cannes Special Prize-winning operatic fantasy summit featuring Moira Shearer, Robert Helpmann, and Hein Heckroth's Oscar-nominated surreal sets.
