Synopsis
On a tranquil, sun-baked southern Italian volcanic island in 1952, an impoverished, illiterate fisherman's son takes a temporary job as a dedicated bicycle postman delivering mail exclusively to the exiled Chilean communist poet Pablo Neruda, learning the magic of metaphors, recording the sounds of waves and church bells, and winning the heart of the village beauty. Michael Radford and Massimo Troisi's five-time Oscar-nominated masterpiece completed hours before Troisi's tragic death from heart failure.
