Synopsis
Recounted by a mother to her sleeping child on the magical summer Night of San Lorenzo when shooting stars grant wishes, the film dramatizes the summer of 1944 in Tuscany when villagers defied the Nazi order to gather in the cathedral and fled into the golden wheat fields searching for the approaching American liberators, clashing in a surreal, tragic battle with local Blackshirt fascists. Paolo & Vittorio Taviani's Cannes Grand Prix-winning lyrical folk epic.
