The Emigrants
Utvandrarna
Synopsis
In the mid-19th century, an impoverished, hard-working farming couple in the rocky province of Småland, Sweden, exhausted by famine, unyielding stony soil, and religious persecution, pack their possessions and embark with their children and neighbors on an arduous wooden sailing voyage across the stormy Atlantic and steam trains to the virgin wilderness of Minnesota. Jan Troell and Vilhelm Moberg's five-time Oscar-nominated historical epic monument starring Max von Sydow and Liv Ullmann.
