Synopsis

In 1930s Prague, a fastidious, gentle crematorium manager obsessed with Tibetan reincarnation and purifying human suffering is seduced by Nazi racial purity ideology, coldly preparing to gas and incinerate his half-Jewish wife and son for the glory of the Reich. Juraj Herz's nightmarish black-and-white tour-de-force of grotesque expressionism and psychological terror.
