Scarlet Street
Synopsis
A mild-mannered, henpecked middle-aged cashier and amateur Sunday painter rescues an alluring young woman from a street assault in Greenwich Village, falling into an obsessive romantic infatuation as she and her sleazy grifter boyfriend conspire to swindle him, passing off his brilliant oil paintings as her own and driving the humiliated cashier to ice-pick murder and homeless wandering. Fritz Lang and Dudley Nichols' pitch-black film noir masterpiece starring Edward G. Robinson, Joan Bennett, and Dan Duryea.
