Synopsis

An arrogant, Dutch-trained young doctor is assigned as an intern to a destitute rural clinic under the stern command of a compassionate, volcanic chief physician known as Red Beard, gradually learning profound humility, medical empathy, and human brotherhood. Akira Kurosawa's three-hour humanist summit, marking his final collaboration with Toshiro Mifune.
