Synopsis
In turn-of-the-century Muslim Lucknow, an ethereal courtesan and nautch dancer named Sahibjaan lives inside an opulent brothel, longing for spiritual purity and true love after a handsome forest ranger leaves a poetic love note on her bare feet while she sleeps aboard a train carriage: 'Aapke paon dekhe, bahut haseen hain...'. Kamal Amrohi's sixteen-year passion project featuring Meena Kumari in her tragic final film performance alongside Ghulam Mohammed's immortal thumri and ghazal songs.
