Synopsis

In the Atlantic port city of Nantes, a joyful cabaret singer raising her seven-year-old son waits faithfully for the return of her first love who left for America seven years ago, crossing paths with an aimless childhood friend, an American sailor, and a lonely teenager in a web of crisscrossing desires. Jacques Demy's dazzling, lyrical debut in glowing widescreen black-and-white starring Anouk Aimée with Raoul Coutard's camera.
