La Terra Trema

Synopsis

In the impoverished Sicilian fishing village of Aci Trezza, an exploited young fisherman mortgages his family home to purchase his own boat and bypass the monopolistic fish wholesalers, only for a catastrophic storm to wreck the boat and force his family into destitution and humiliation before the merchants. Luchino Visconti's epic, operatic neorealist summit filmed entirely with non-professional Sicilian fishermen speaking their native dialect.
