Vanskabte Land
Synopsis
In the late 19th century, an idealistic Danish Lutheran priest is sent to a remote settlement on the southeastern coast of Iceland to construct a wooden church and photograph its people, choosing to travel across the wild, volcanic Icelandic interior on horseback carrying heavy glass photographic plates on his back, succumbing to the unforgiving mossy terrain, glacial rivers, and a lethal philosophical battle of wills with his rugged, Danish-hating Icelandic guide Ragnar. Hlynur Pálmason's Cannes-premiering Nordic summit shot in luminous 1.33:1 Academy ratio.
