Synopsis
In the theatrical underworld of 1830s Paris, a courtesan and four very different men—a mime, an actor, a criminal, and an aristocrat—navigate passion and tragedy. Filmed covertly under Nazi occupation, Carné's epic is a monument of French cinema.
