Synopsis
A bitter, cynical former schoolteacher writes letters for illiterate citizens in Rio de Janeiro's bustling train terminal and pockets the postage, but undergoes a profound spiritual redemption when she embarks on a cross-country bus journey across the dusty sertão badlands to help a newly orphaned 9-year-old boy locate his father. Walter Salles' Berlin Golden Bear and Oscar-nominated triumph featuring Fernanda Montenegro's historic performance.
